Mistakes You Should Avoid!

DRESS CODE NO NO'S

Too Much Leg
When summer is right around the corner, make sure not to get carried away and show up at the office in shorts or even worse, skimpy hot pants. Other summer wardrobe no no’s to watch for are tank tops, tube tops, sheer dresses, and miniskirts.

Keep the Sloppy Look at Home
It’s bad for the business when employees look this sloppy, baseball caps, baggy-fit jeans
and halfway untucked shirts. It’s time to stop the "I just rolled out of bed" look at work and keep it for elsewhere.

Short Midriff Tops
Some female employees may be drawn to wear midriff-baring tops in the summer at work. That's fine for evenings and weekends, but bare bellies at work are a definite no-no.

Tattoos & Body Jewelry
Even if you love your tattoo and your body jewelry, they are usually seen as distracting and unprofessional. You should worry about the message it’s going to send at your work when you flaunt your body art and if it will impact the way people look at you.

5 Easy Steps To Buy An Office Wardrobe On Budget

Here are 5 easy steps to buy an office wardrobe on budget!
1) Get larger pieces (pants, skirts, and jackets) in neutral colors that mix and match. Neutral colors work best and mix with each other. Shoes should be comfortable. Better stores for shoes would be the discount shoe stores or outlet malls. Also, online retailers or auction sites can be a good location.

2) Get accent pieces in coordinating colors. If you stick with neutrals for the big stuff, you'll have a wide range of combination colors to choose from for shirts and ties. Avoid neutral colors, except white shirts. They look great on almost everyone. Go with solid colors.

3) Look hard in your closet for anything you might turn into office wear. Maybe you have a nice white button-front hidden in your closet, or a pair of shoes that would look brand new with a coat of polish.

4) Make a list of what you need before you go shopping. You probably have a limited amount of time to shop as well as a limited budget, so start with the lowest-price stores first like thrift stores and discount retailers, but focus only on what you're likely to find at that kind of store. Stick to your shopping list!

5) Know that you are done shopping! While you may have spent what seems like a lot of money, you will have picked up a wardrobe that will last, and that you can expand on easily by buying additional pieces when you have a little extra cash.

Tattoos In The Workplace

I found a great blog called What To Wear To Work. It is a great blog that talks about the do`s and don`ts of dress code in the workplace. They have good informative articles such as Peek-a-Boo … I See Too Much of You: Sheer, See-through Clothes and the HR Dress Code,  Thongs and HR Dress Code Policies, I see London, I see France, I see Bob’s Underpants! and Tattoos in the Workplace: The HR Dress Code.

Today tattoos have become such a huge trend but still remains a taboo in many workplaces as employees struggle to express their personality while obeying to workplace tattoos policies.

Nearly two out of ten Canadians have a tattoo or have had body piercing done 18% of Canadians have a tattoo or have had some part of their body pierced.

That means there’s a lot of tattoo working ladies and men are sporting their tattoos at the workplace.

Reactions to tattoos in professional situations seem to be relying on the company and the employer. Even though tattoos are becoming more acceptable in the workplace, there are still some customer service company that are worried that employee with tattoos can affect their business. These types of businesses should have a policy on tattoos and body piercing where they clearly explain the company rules. Employers with dress code or other policies should review often and make sure all managers are regularly applying the policies.

Work It Girl: 9 to 5 Style

I have recently found a great blog from Lauren Conrad where she gives great tips for work attire. The information is great because it helps you look fabulous and still be fashionable in the workplace for women.

Even though all work environments have different rules as to what is and isn’t okay to wear, the following commandments cover most of the general dos and don'ts of dressing for work:
  • Never let your outfit outshine your work.
  • Never wear clothing with obnoxious logos.
  • Avoid all sexy and revealing clothing.
  • Not wear any ripped, torn, or sloppy clothing.
  • Find inspiration from your female boss.
  • Always dress to impress—even on “casual Fridays.”
  • Do not wear underwear as outerwear.
  • Always use your best judgment.
